Live Betting boom continued with undiminished strength in August

Every month we review and evaluate the results in our paid subscriptions under Monetos Plus, where we send out pregame and live bets to subscribers. The big headline for August is that our Live Betting+ subscription continues to deliver an impressively strong return. Sportsbetteren also delivered profit, albeit a small one.

1,290 days ago – on February 19, 2022, to be exact – we sent out the very first live bet in Monetos history via the Telegram group. It was HSV -0.5 Asian handicap against Sandhausen in the German 2. Bundesliga. The bet landed, and we opened with exactly two units in profit. That’s how it all began!

Over the 3.5 years that have passed, profit has grown to 276 units on 5,316 units staked as of August 31, 2025, where we even briefly reached the highest profit in history: 278.841 units. That equals a return on investment of 105.19% spread over 2,205 unique live bets, and the surge continued from July into August.

August produced a return of +15.80% and a profit of 22.75 units, meaning that July and August together delivered a 114.95% return on investment across 97 bets in the Live Betting+ subscription.

We are very proud of that! It’s one thing to produce continuous profit over such a long period, but doing so mainly on large live markets and only playing at bet365 odds – which excludes us from always having the best lines in the market – really underlines the quality of the live bets we send out.

Does that mean we do everything right? No, far from it. We make misjudgments every single month and try to learn from them so we can do even better in the future and maintain a high standard.

For example, it looked like FC Midtjylland would keep pushing against KuPS at 2-0 up in Finland. The Finns were down to 10 men, so we went for -1 Asian on FCM at 2-0 (6-0 on aggregate). Even though the Danes continued creating chances, the pace dropped. And that’s understandable when there was absolutely no excitement left in the tie, which also only had minimal stoppage time added. This underlines how important it is to be very sure the favorite will keep pushing all the way; otherwise, it’s hard to play such a big handicap under those circumstances.

We also played PSV -1.75 Asian after Telstar went ahead in Eindhoven. But it was just an off day for PSV, who lost 0-2. Sure, the home side created 1.24 expected goals in the second half and were maybe a bit unlucky, but Telstar had 1.02 xG themselves. When a big underdog gets that much out of their efforts, you’re a long way from even half a win, which would have been triggered by a one-goal PSV victory.

The same was true with our over 4.0 Asian bet in Grimsby–Manchester United at 2-0 to the underdog. We ended up getting our money back when the match finished 2-2, but as we wrote in the analysis, it was raining heavily, and the pitch deteriorated during the second half. Important reminder: Pitch conditions generally need to be good for it to make sense to play overs on such a high line, where we only win after three goals in 38 minutes of football plus stoppage time.

That’s how it is – it’s impossible to predict every game correctly. Sometimes we’re way off and still win. Other times the analysis is spot on, but we lose. That’s part of the sports betting game, and we don’t take it too hard. We just try to learn and improve continuously.

And of course, it goes without saying that there were many excellent bets in such a strong month. The ROI for August ended at 113.71% – and that’s even in a month where we missed a 4-unit bet in Hibernian–Partizan.

A great example was how we read the second leg Kairat–Celtic. It was under, under, and more under – more than six units in profit on that game alone. Shakhtar Donetsk had no trouble covering its -0.5 handicap against Servette. In Arda–Rakow there were enough chances for more than the one goal we needed on over 2.5. And we closed the month with FCM +0 Asian, which looked tough in the 88th minute when Brøndby equalized – but ended 3-1 to FCM with two very late goals.

Small profit in The Sportsbettor

August, on the other hand, was lukewarm in our pregame subscription Sportsbetteren. Sure, we made a profit of 1.74 units, but boasting about that result over 57 bets and 166 units staked is like going all in at the all-inclusive buffet – and ending up with just a single slice of cucumber on the plate.

No, we aim higher than that. And to reach that goal, we need bets as good as Frankfurt -0.75 Asian at odds 1.98 against Werder Bremen. After 10 minutes, the live line was Frankfurt -1 Asian at 1.90, and Frankfurt went on to win 4-1 for a full win.

On the other hand, the stake was 3.5 units too high on Essen–Dortmund and both teams to score. Sure, Essen missed a one-on-one in the first half, but overall the game wasn’t nearly as open as Dortmund’s weakened defense might have suggested. Maybe because Dortmund were out of sync, and because it was a big Ruhr derby, they “only” won 1-0 thanks to a Sehrou Guirassy moment of brilliance?

Better was our bet on Sønderjyske to take points in Silkeborg. The money came our way, and Sønderjyske won 2-0 on the artificial pitch. Or AGF +1 Asian in Parken against FCK earlier in the month, where it was obvious FCK were focused on Champions League qualification. Those are the kinds of spots we usually like, and they paid off.

August was also the month where we lost a 4-unit bet in Sportsbetteren, and it shows clearly on the bottom line. We staked on Braga to win to nil at home against Lincoln Red Imps at odds 1.87. It looked fine until the very end, when the big underdog scored a consolation goal in the 89th minute – as 23.00 outsiders. A swing of 7.48 units in the account and an ROI of 105.56% for the month.

Or in other words: Quite a bit more than a single slice of cucumber.
